It’s a great way to introduce the topic of the season in general and opens up many lines of discussion. Following the text is a vocabulary exercise using winter adjectives (slippery, snowy, freezing, etc.). The third part of the lesson unit is a great “Brainstorming Exercise” where students work together to solve winter problems – e.g. where to get information on the weather, what to do if you have an exam and there’s a blizzard outside, etc. This activity could be done together as a class or in smaller groups and is a great way to practice writing simple sentences. It’s a great way to introduce the topic of the season in general and opens up many lines of discussion. Following the text is an exercise matching winter idioms – students match the meaning in Column A to the idioms in Column B. Fun to do as a class, but can also be done in groups, or individually. Students are then asked to choose 4 of the idioms and write their own sentences.
